OUTREACH

Desert Chapel UMC works diligently to meet the ever-changing needs of the communities and the world in which we live.  Through hands-on ministry and outreach into the community and the world, we work to share God’s love with people everywhere.

We divide our mission efforts between local, regional and global outreach.

Our local outreach includes the following:

Community Feast – Every Saturday, from 11:00 am – 2:00 p.m., we provide a free meal for the community, feeding those in need and people from every walk of life

Blessing Box - is up and running -located in front of the Church by the
Cross. The box is filled with personal items, toilet paper, soap, boxes of food, (non-perishable items)

Clothing Closet - We provide clothing, shoes, bedding and personal hygiene products to those in need.  Contributions are always welcome!

Monthly Missions

In addition to these on-going ministries at the church facility, each month we highlight a specific ministry or mission to support with either in-kind gifts or cash contributions. Current monthly mission projects include:

Avalon Charter School with school supplies each fall, Thanksgiving baskets each November and health office supplies in the winter.

Justa Center – the Justa Center in Phoenix is a day shelter for homeless seniors (55+), providing them with access to services, a safe place to be for the day, out of the elements, and assisting them to become self-sufficient.  We collect the supplies needed for the facility to meet the needs of the seniors.

Turkey Box - "Turkey Boxes for Avalon: Goal is 50 boxes of a full Thanksgiv- ing Dinner for the families of Avalon Public Charter
School. Please place your items on the tables in the Lobby. If you would like to give a Turkey, please sign up and let us know when you would bring the Turkey to the Church. We will pack the boxes and deliver them to Avalon
. . Thank you all for supporting this Ministry!"

12-Step Groups - Desert Chapel UMC provides rooms and support for weekly meetings of Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous and other 12-step groups.  Meetings include both men’s, women’s and mixed groups.
